Cummings Street Church is a community of believers both locally and virtually who love God and love God’s people. We are located in the heart of Memphis, Tennessee. Our humble beginnings date back as far as the late 1800s. Cummings Street has always been known as a leading, innovative church that serves its community by knowing God and making Him known.
We believe that the church and this world is governed by ONE God – creator of all things, God of Abraham, Isaac, and Moses. (Genesis 1:1)
We believe that this ONE God’s Son, in the person of Jesus Christ, was born of a virgin, lived among us, and died a sacrificial death for the purpose of saving our souls from eternal death in hell.
We believe that Jesus the Christ’s sacrifice provides the redemption for the sins of mankind and that by confessing the Lord Jesus Christ and believing that he is the Son of God raised from the dead, we are saved from eternal damnation and provided life eternal in heaven. Thus, we believe in the life, death, resurrection, and return of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. (I John 4:15)
We believe in the holy scripture and that it was inspired by God through the Holy Spirit for the purpose of equipping, correcting, and saving of mankind. (2 Timothy 3:16)
We believe the membership of the local church should support the missions and ministries through tithes and offering. (Malachi 3:10)
We believe that two offices exist in the church – Pastor (Elder, Overseer, Bishop) and Deacons – but that all members who make up the body of Christ are charged with the same commission in Matthew 28:18-20.
Cummings Street Church exists to educate, engage, and equip its members to evangelize the lost and empower the Kingdom of God.
Pastor Jones is the Senior Pastor of Cummings Street Church, located in Memphis, TN. In addition to his service at Cummings Street , Dr. Jones has also served nearly 30 years as an educator in Shelby County Schools. He studied at the University of Memphis, earning a Bachelors of Arts in English, a Masters of Arts in Education, and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership and Policy. Pastor Jones has a servant’s heart and delights in seeing people grow in their knowledge of Jesus Christ. Pastor Jones and his lovely wife, Tressa, are also the proud parents of two children.
